Decision Maker
As a Court-Ordered Decision-Maker, I make decisions for the parents that are in the best interests of the child(ren). While the primary goal is child-centered, I believe it is important that such decisions are unbiased with respect to the parents' positions on the issue(s). There are times when parents are at an impasse, and it proves very difficult to compromise or surrender to the other.
The reality is that when there is a salient conflict between the parents, the child(ren) suffers and can develop relatively permanent problems. The court orders a Decision-Maker to avoid unnecessary conflict and to develop solutions that are binding on both parents.
When the DM makes a judgment call, it typically results in one or both of the parents feeling negative about it. Perhaps a sense of unfairness, inequality, frustration, etc. Therefore, both parents should prepare themselves upfront for some disappointment in the process.
The ultimate goal of Decision-Making is, like the Parental Coordinator, to get the parenting plan executed and sustainable without assistance. I can work as both a PC and a DM simultaneously.
